How to Maintain Your Septic Tank Maintenance

March 1, 2018

The septic system underneath your home is vital. You need to keep a regular maintenance schedule so that it gets looked at by a professional with frequency. Here are some things you can do to ensure your next inspection goes smoothly.

Do Not Use a Lot of Chemicals

A lot of materials are going to end up in your septic tank. You need to ensure the tank itself is able to withstand everything, and that means using chemicals as infrequently as possible. When you need to undo a clog in one of your drains, try to use a snake instead of resorting immediately to an abrasive chemical.

Watch What You Flush

In addition to chemicals, there are plenty of other substances you do not want to send into the tank. These include:

• Cigarette butts
• Coffee grounds
• Disposable diapers
• Cooking fats
• Paper towels

Be Aware of Signs of Breaking

In the event your septic tank does break, you need to get a professional out to your property immediately. You should be able to notice a problem due to the stench that will permeate your house. There may also be strange puddles forming in the yard.

With a little care, you can be confident your septic tank will last for a long time. Get more information by contacting C.E. Taylor and Son, Inc.
